Hi there darlings!
My fashion choices are usually inspired by the last piece of great work I’ve seen, be it a movie, TV show, or artwork. After spending my post Romeo and Juliet viewing weekend in velvet and long wavy hairstyles I quickly moved from the looks of the fair Veronians (I think that’s what you’d call them, don’t you think loves?) to the structured clothing and hair looks of the 50s thanks to Showtime’s brilliant new series “Masters of Sex”. If you haven’t seen the show yet it follows the true story of William Masters and Virginia Johnson as they pioneer research on human sexuality. It stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan (perhaps best known for her role as Janis Ian in Mean Girls) who are both wonderfully talented. But as is often the case in period works, fashion is the extra character on the show. Lizzy’s character wears stunning outfits as the plucky assistant to Dr. Masters in his groundbreaking research. The structural fashion of the 50s works so well as a foil to the eye-opening research that’s anything but stuffy.
Virginia wears predominately dark fitted clothing with pops of red and olive. Conversely, Master’s wife Libby played by Caitlin Fitzgerald is outfitted in blues and green fit and flare dresses as she battles with her struggle to get pregnant. While Virginia is forceful, Libby is quite fragile. This contrast is well suited to their differing characters.
So whether you’re a Virginia or a Libby, “Masters of Sex” has a style for you. Taking on the character personality traits not required. Though I think we could all learn a bit from Virginia’s fiery attitude! Take a look at the pics below and see whose style most suits your fancy!
Which gal shares your style sense? Have a lovely day my dears!
